‘Basic infrastructure to cover 95 pct of Sibuti next year’theborneopost.com. Posted on December 28, 2012, Friday
MIRI: The coverage of basic infrastructure in Sibuti is expected to reach 90 to 95 per cent next year.
Member of Parliament for Sibuti Ahmad Lai Bujang said the provision of basic infrastructure such as roads, electricity and clean water supply currently stands at 75 per cent.
“We are not able to set a 100 per cent target next year due to some new settlements that have been set up. The allocation given by the government was for earlier application.
“The application for new settlement would be forwarded to the next Malaysia plan,” he told The Borneo Post at his office recently.
He added the development cost to provide such basic infrastructure consumed a huge portion of the budget.
Thus, he pointed out that the implementation of such projects needed a proper and comprehensive plan.
In view of that, he expected total understanding from the rural folk whose villages are yet to have electricity and clean water supply.
“Barisan Nasional government will not give empty promises to its people. Instead, BN under the 1Malaysia concept that strongly emphasises on “People First, Performance Now” will make every effort to turn the development promises into reality,” he said.
Being the representative of the constituency, it is always his dream to close the gap of development between urban and rural areas, he stressed, adding that as Sibuti is not that far from Miri, only one and half hour drive from the city, there is a need to close the obvious development gap.
With the government’s commitment, he was pleased to note the development projects in his area had steadily increased.
He, therefore, called the people to give undivided support to the government for continuity in development in their areas.
He also hoped telecommunication service providers would extend internet coverage in Sibuti with the installation of high speed internet access such as TM UniFi broadband.
He said he looked forward to the next year’s budget that will emphasise on rural development.
