PAS shortlists three to contest Sibuti

Posted on April 2, 2012, Monday
MIRI: PAS has shortlisted three professionals to take on Sibuti parliamentary constituency in the upcoming 13th general election.

Its state youth chief Mohammad Arifiriazul Paijo disclosed that among the names submitted to PAS central committee was an Iban.

“PAS has shortlisted three names including an Iban as its candidate in Sibuti,” Mohammad told the press after launching ‘Jentera Pilihanraya P218 Sibuti’ at the party’s office here yesterday, adding that the persons were all locals and well-liked by the villagers and youths.

Also present was PAS Youth national director of operations Mohd Sany Hamzah.

According to Mohammad, based on seats allocation among Pakatan Rakyat parties in Sarawak, PAS was given the task to wrest Sibuti from Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said PAS Miri had been on the ground in Sibuti since last year, meeting people in villages and longhouses including the Chinese community to woo support.

Mohammad, who is also PAS Miri information chief, disclosed that since PAS had not set up its operations room and branch in Sibuti, a team from PAS Miri and Bintulu would mobilise the onslaught.

“Infrastructure and local issues will be looked into if PAS wins the seat,” he disclosed, advising the people not to regard PAS as a race-based party as proven by its openness to propose an Iban as its candidate.
